Resilience Week 2026
Friday: Power-Shifting When Things Don't Go Your Way

It was a fantastic Friday and a wonderful week!
Today's lesson was about handling disappointment when things don't go our way in a calmer, more patient way. Kids can learn to "power shift" from anger to contentment by choosing how they'll think about the situation. It's good practice for grown-ups, too!
Poison Dart Frog!
It's fun to start the day with a group game! Poison Dart Frog is a fun guessing game!

Sticky Note Challenge
Today's sticky note challenge was to recall the 5 I's of managing mistakes. They did a great job remembering what we'd learned the day before!

Power-shifting When Things Don't Go Your Way
Today's Adventures in Wisdom™ story was about a girl named Sharon who experiences several disappointments in one day that combine to really get her down. She feels like the whole world is out to get her and nothing is going right!

Wyatt the Wise Wizard™ teaches Sharon how to power-shift by shifting out of thinking like a victim into empowerment thinking. He gives her magic goggles that help her to see how she can better handle disappointments by taking responsibility for what she can, seeing what she can learn from the situation and asking for something different (self-advocacy). Sharon gets to keep her goggles for the rest of her life!
We learned three more regulation breathing techniques that we can use in the moment of frustration or upset to help calm our body and our brain.
Power Goggles Workshop
The kids got to make their own power goggles in the Power Goggles Workshop! With pipe cleaners, stickers and markers, they made very colorful, creative goggles to help them see how to calm themselves and look for new solutions when something doesn't go their way.

Snack and Group Games

Today we played Coconut-Palm Tree-Pirate, Fruit Salad, Poison Dart Frog and 4 Corners!
Power-Shifting Practice
All the children got a chance to practice power-shifting when they were thinking limiting beliefs (by selecting a limiting belief wordstrip), choosing a calming strategy and then moving from the red spot to the green spot.

FLIP THAT MINDSET Gameshow!
"Flip that Mindset" gameshow was a lot of fun! Repetition is key for learning new concepts and adopting new strategies, so we continued this theme of flipping or shifting from limiting to supporting beliefs.
But, in the gameshow, everyone chants together "Flip that mindset!!" and the contestant gets to toss the giant wordstrip into the air to see which side will land face-up-- the limiting or the supporting belief, to much applause.
The teaching point is that if we leave our thoughts to chance, we'll never know what to anticipate. But, when we use our agency to actively choose to shift/flip into supporting beliefs, we can feel more peaceful, confident and self-responsible! Thus, lowering anxiety, fear and worry.

Resilience Week Certificates!
Each of the kids received a Resilience Week certificate after spending the week learning, growing, exploring, creating and playing. They were such a great group and so much fun to be with!
Thank you, parents, for the opportunity to support their mental health and emotional wellness!
Thank you, Ms. Shamberly, for being an amazing assistant!
